ATV and Dirt Bike Ban Reinstated in Thompson Due to Extreme Fire Risk
The City of Thompson has reinstated a full ban on recreational use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and dirt bikes effective July 31. The ban, issued by the Fire Chief, comes in response to the heightened wildfire threat caused by extremely dry and windy weather conditions.
City officials say the ban will remain in effect until further notice and is part of ongoing fire prevention measures amid Manitoba’s worst wildfire season in decades.
The use of recreational off-road vehicles is strongly discouraged as they can generate sparks and heat capable of igniting dry brush, especially under the current weather forecast of rising temperatures and strong winds.
Residents are reminded to follow all fire-related restrictions and stay informed through official City of Thompson channels.
