Travel conditions around the “Hub of the North” are deteriorating, as Manitoba 511 reports that blowing and drifting snow are now creating hazardous driving environments on major routes surrounding Thompson.

While highways were already experiencing “partly snow-packed” conditions, the situation has worsened with the addition of visibility-reducing blowing snow. The following highways are currently affected:

• HWY-6
• HWY-280
• HWY-391
• HWY-620

Manitoba 511—the provincial digital traveler information service—is advising all motorists in the area to exercise caution. With road conditions subject to rapid change in the open areas of the north, drivers should be prepared for sudden reductions in visibility and slippery sections.
