A new aviation training program is coming to Thompson this fall, providing northern residents with an opportunity to gain skills and experience in the growing aviation sector.
The Introduction to Northern Aviation Operations course, offered by the Manitoba Aviation Council in partnership with University College of the North, runs from October 6 to November 28 at Area 55, 1 Airport Road, Thompson.
The program includes four weeks of in-class training and 150 hours of work experience. Students will cover modules on northern aviation challenges, earn a Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A), and receive mentorship from industry experts.
For Manitoba residents, tuition is free, with training materials supplied for accepted students. Qualified candidates may also receive wage compensation during their work experience.
Graduates will be accredited with a joint certificate recognized by the aviation industry and will gain transferable skills useful in aviation and other industries. The program is designed for northern residents interested in careers such as pilots, flight attendants, aircraft maintenance engineers, air traffic controllers, or airport professionals.
