New Program Supports Aspiring Entrepreneurs in Thompson - AI Generated Image
Unemployed residents and those looking to launch their own businesses in Thompson now have a new support system, thanks to the launch of the Self-Employment Program by Community Futures North Central Development (CFNCD).
Based in Thompson, CFNCD is offering the program to individuals who are unemployed, have current or past Employment Insurance (EI) claims, receive Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), or are considered low-skilled workers. The initiative is designed to provide the tools and support needed to help people turn business ideas into reality.
Eligible participants will receive one-on-one coaching, guidance in writing business plans, training in entrepreneurial skills, and referrals to other helpful organisations in the community. Participants must be able to contribute to their start-up—whether in cash or assets—and must not have recently completed a similar program or already be operating a business.
The program is part of CFNCD’s broader mission to strengthen economic self-reliance in northern communities. With federal funding from Western Economic Diversification Canada, the organization hopes the program will lead to new local ventures, greater financial independence, and a stronger, more diverse economy in Thompson and surrounding areas.
