R.D. Parker Collegiate Offers Regular Smudging Sessions for Students and Staff - AI Generated Image
R.D. Parker Collegiate’s Student Services team is now offering regular smudging sessions three times a week, giving students and staff the opportunity to engage in culturally grounded practices that support mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
The sessions take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM, led by Kaysi, Madeline, and members of the Student Services team. Students and staff are invited to visit the counsellor’s office to take part.
Smudging is a traditional Indigenous practice involving the burning of sacred medicines such as sage, sweetgrass, or cedar to cleanse and centre the spirit. By incorporating this ceremony into its regular programming, R.D. Parker Collegiate is creating a welcoming space for reflection and connection while promoting cultural awareness within the school community.
As part of the School District of Mystery Lake, the initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to support reconciliation and celebrate Indigenous heritage in Thompson. Through these sessions, the school aims to strengthen community ties and encourage respect for Indigenous traditions as part of everyday life.
