The School District of Mystery Lake is sharing a helpful new resource for families: the “How Sick is Too Sick for School” chart, developed by the Northern Health Region. The guide provides clear direction on when children should stay home and when they are healthy enough to return to class.
According to the chart, students should stay home if they have:
- A fever of 38°C (100°F) or higher
- A new or frequent cough
- Sore throat
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Severe abdominal pain
- Strep throat
- Any severe pain or a new rash
- Any illness that prevents them from comfortably participating in daily activities
Children can return to school when they:
- Are fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication
- Have an improving or occasional cough
- Have completed 24 hours of treatment for strep throat
- Have been free of vomiting or diarrhea for 48 hours
- Have a rash that is not contagious
The school division says the chart is designed to make decisions easier for parents and caregivers while helping reduce the spread of illness in classrooms.
