
Substance Use and Addictions Awareness Week Events Continue in Thompson - AI Generated Image
A week of community programming focused on education, prevention, and support is underway in Thompson as part of Manitoba Substance Use and Addictions Awareness Week, running from November 17–21, 2025. Eaglewood Treatment Centre and partner organizations are hosting a series of events designed to provide resources, training, and family engagement opportunities.
Monday, November 17
Activities began with a Substance Use Bingo and presentation at the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Fox Bay Connections Clubhouse. The event ran from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and was open to Eaglewood residents.
Tuesday, November 18
Eaglewood Treatment Centre held a combined Tea and Bannock social, along with a Substance Use and STBBI Jeopardy session, offered to residents and Northern Health Region staff. The program ran from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, November 19
Residents participated in SafeTALK suicide-prevention training, facilitated by Stephanie Hysert and Glen Kelly. The session focused on recognizing warning signs of suicide and connecting individuals with local supports.
Thursday, November 20
A major community event—Family Game and Resource Night—will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Wapanohk Community School gymnasium.
The evening is open to Grades 5–8 students and their families, offering games, music, rock climbing, basketball, volleyball, hotdogs, and resource tables. Staff from the Northern Health Region and the Canadian Mental Health Association will provide information for parents on substance use and mental health. Students must be accompanied by an adult.
Friday, November 21
The week concludes with free Naloxone training at the Thompson Public Library. The session runs from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and is open to the public.
Participants will learn how to administer Naloxone, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. STBBI testing will also be available.
