A routine investigation by the RCMP’s crime reduction team at the Thompson airport has stopped a significant shipment of drugs from reaching a remote northern community.
Manitoba RCMP announced today, January 30, 2026, that officers have seized a large quantity of suspected cocaine and arrested an 18-year-old male following an interception at the airport.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon, January 29, around 1:30 p.m.. Officers from the Manitoba North District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) were conducting an investigation at the airport when they encountered the suspect, a resident of Winnipeg.
- Destination: Police report the male was waiting to catch a flight to Shamattawa.
- The Search: Upon arrest, officers discovered three “tightly wrapped packages” on his person.
Inside the packages, police found 350 individual baggies of suspected cocaine, weighing a total of 143 grams. Photos released by the RCMP show rows of the small, pre-packaged bags laid out on an evidence table, indicating they were ready for immediate street-level sale.
The 18-year-old suspect faces charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Thompson court at a later date.
