Thompson Paws In Need Clinic Wrap-Up: 92 Surgeries Completed Despite Rocky Start - AI Generated Image
A visiting veterinarian and local volunteers worked through exhaustion to provide crucial care for Thompson’s pets during a jam-packed clinic week.
Northern Manitoba Paws In Need successfully wrapped up its first mobile veterinary clinic of 2026 this past Saturday, February 14. The week-long event, run in partnership with the Bark and Meow Mobile Veterinary Clinic, saw Dr. Iskander working tirelessly alongside staff and volunteers to meet the high demand for animal care in the region.
A Bumpy Beginning The clinic almost faced a major delay when it kicked off on Sunday, February 8. Dr. Iskander found himself stranded with a blown tire just south of Ponton. However, a local resident named Kerry Hiscock stepped in to save the day, helping the vet get back on the road to Thompson. While this caused a late start, the team managed to push through and keep the clinic on track.
By the Numbers Once underway, the clinic was described as “jammed packed” every single day. The team successfully completed a significant amount of work. They performed 92 various surgeries and handled 77 exam appointments for a variety of issues. Sadly, the team also had to perform 2 euthanasias, expressing sincere condolences to the families of well-known shop clients Chopper and Oscar. On a brighter note, several pet adoptions were finalized on the last day of the clinic.
Looking Ahead Paws In Need expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Iskander, the volunteers, and the surrounding communities for making the clinic a success. For those who missed out, the next mobile clinic dates are already set for April 16 to 20, with registration details expected to be posted shortly.
