The City of Thompson is calling on residents to help make provincial sports history, launching a major recruitment drive for volunteers ahead of the 2026 Manitoba Winter Games.
With the Games set to take over the city from March 1 to 7, 2026, organizers estimate they will need upwards of 750 volunteers to support the massive event. The “Hub of the North” will be welcoming a significant influx of visitors, including:
- 1,500+ athletes (ages 10-17)
- 300 coaches and managers
- 100 officials
A Tradition of Hosting: This marks the third time Thompson has hosted the Winter Games, having previously welcomed the province in 1994 and 2018. The 2026 edition, powered by Manitoba Hydro, will feature competition in 12 different sports under the inclusive theme “Together We Play, māmawi ki-mētawānaw”.
Roles Available: The call for help extends beyond general support; Sport Manitoba is specifically highlighting the need for critical leadership roles, such as Chefs de Mission and Assistant Chefs de Mission, to help guide the teams.
