The Thompson Seniors Community Resource Council has released its April 2026 newsletter, packed with upcoming programs, health information, and ways for seniors to get involved in the community.
Free Tax Clinic — April 13, 14 and 15
The Seniors Council is offering three days of free 2025 income tax filing on Monday, April 13, Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 15. Morning appointments can be scheduled in advance, and walk-ins are welcome in the afternoon. The clinic will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre.
The clinic is part of Canada Revenue’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Trained volunteers handle basic filing. Note that those with properties, capital gains, or other complex returns may not be eligible. To register, call 204-677-0987 weekdays only.
Respite Care Program
Are you a caregiver who needs a break, or someone interested in providing respite care? The Seniors Council is in the final stages of developing a respite case study that will provide free care for a few hours a week over a 30-week period. Honorariums will be paid to respite providers. The program is made possible by a grant from the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation. Contact the office by phone or email to learn more.
Garden Boxes — Free for Seniors
Thanks to the Northern Manitoba Food, Culture and Community Collaborative, raised garden boxes are again available to seniors for free. This year, the council is encouraging seniors to help assemble the boxes alongside youth in an intergenerational approach. To help assemble, call the office. To get on the waiting list for a garden box, contact the office or sign up at the Trade Show in May.
