Thompson’s Canada Day Parade Set for July 1 at 1:30 PM - AI Generated Image
The City of Thompson is gearing up for a full day of Canada Day celebrations on July 1, 2025, with festivities planned from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Thompson Regional Community Centre (TRCC). While this year’s event will not include a fireworks display due to the ongoing wildfire situation in Manitoba, the day will be packed with activities for all ages.
The celebration will begin with a free pancake breakfast and jigging from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 11:00 a.m. featuring the Thompson Community Choir and free cupcakes.
Live music will take over from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with North Bound Revival & Friends, and the Canada Day parade is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. along Thompson Drive. An arm wrestling tournament will also take place at the TRCC at 1:30 p.m.
Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy mini-golf, laser tag, face painting, henna, vendors, and boat rides.
Due to heightened fire risk across Manitoba—including 18 active wildfires and more than 900,000 hectares of forest already burned—the City made the decision to cancel the fireworks after consulting with the Manitoba Wildfire Service. More than 20,000 residents across the province have been evacuated this season, including evacuees from communities like Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation who were recently hosted at the TRCC.
Despite the cancellation, the City encourages everyone to come out and enjoy the many safe and festive activities planned.
