Thompson to see 10cm of Snow Tonight Before New Year’s Deep Freeze - AI Generated Image
Residents should have their shovels ready and parkas handy, as Environment Canada is forecasting a significant snowfall tonight followed by a dangerous drop in temperatures just in time for New Year’s Eve.
According to the latest forecast issued this morning, heavy snow is expected to begin this evening, December 29, depositing between 5 to 10 cm of fresh powder across the city. The snow will taper off into light flurries by Tuesday morning, giving way to clearing skies and plunging temperatures.
As the clouds break, the region will be gripped by extreme cold. Tuesday night is forecast to drop to a low of -32°C. The deep freeze will intensify for New Year’s Eve on Wednesday, with a daytime high of just -26°C and an overnight low plummeting to -33°C as residents ring in 2026.
Environment Canada warns that the risk of frostbite remains high throughout the week due to wind chills hovering near -33 during the day and dropping further overnight.
