With a focus on safety, workforce data, and economic growth, the city’s business advocates are setting ambitious goals for the year ahead.
The Thompson Chamber of Commerce convened its second board meeting of the year on January 28, 2026, using the session to reflect on a transformative 2025 and solidify its strategic priorities for the coming months. Under the leadership of General Manager Jatin, the board emphasized a commitment to fostering long-term success for the local business community.
One of the headline initiatives for 2026 is a push to better understand the local labour market. The Chamber plans to develop and review workforce and labour-needs surveys, moving beyond anecdotal evidence to identify specific shortages and drive community-led solutions. This comes as the organization seeks to address broader economic conditions and sustainable growth opportunities in the north.
Recognizing that a thriving business environment requires a safe community, the Chamber is prioritizing its partnership with the RCMP and other stakeholders. The board intends to continue engaging in high-level discussions regarding public safety trends and their impact on local commerce.
As the largest chamber of commerce in Northern Manitoba with over 130 members, the organization is gearing up for a busy spring. The next board meeting is scheduled for February 11, 2026, with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) expected to take place in April or May.
